Abstract

We report a case of spinal epidural abscess in the dorsal thoracolumbar spine because of spondylodiscitis at the L5-S1 level. The patient presented severe back pain and impending cauda equina syndrome. Instead of performing multiple laminectomies for decompression, we inserted an epidural catheter in 3 laminectomies followed by continuous irrigation. The patient showed improved clinical symptoms, and the magnetic resonance imaging scan showed complete decompression. We administered a 6-week intravenous antibiotics dose to treat the infection.
